In 2014 we witnessed some of the most controversial, surprising – and tragic – leadership changes to the energy industry in years. Europe in particular witnessed some seismic shifts, further highlighting the lack of veteran heavyweights now in circulation among the continent’s leading energy players.

This year we have already seen some big changes in the oil and gas industry. Maria das Graças Silva Foster, who resigned as Petrobras CEO, has been replaced by Brazil's state banker Aldemir Bendine. Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin has been named the new Chief Executive Officer and President of Malaysia's national oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).
