Gazprom explores ideal energy source of the future

The opening day of Gastech 2017, the world's largest and most influential meeting place for the global gas & LNG industry, was marked by an impressive opening morning plenary session.

Gazprom's Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Management Committee, spoke about the future of the industry alongside an impressive panel of senior business leaders in the LNG sector, including ConocoPhillips, Shell and ADNOC. During his opening speech, Mr. Medvedev said:

"The world of today stands on the doorstep of a major transformation, in economic, technological and political spheres, and traditional preferences of industrial society are giving way to a new and hi-tech economy - the economy of knowledge, and information." He described natural gas as "the ideal energy source for the future - in Russia, hundreds of billions of cubic metres of natural gas are discovered every year, and offers the possibility to satisfy the growing demands of the 21st century.”

Mr Medvedev explained that "the energy tandem of Russia and Europe is a unique example of long term and mutually beneficial cooperation. Over the years of our strategic partnership, Gazprom has supplied more than 4 trillion cubic metres of Russian Gas to the market.”

He ended by saying that "the biggest prospects for natural gas are in China."
