ignite! the Energy Recruitment Show, was launched at Gastech today, to a bustling audience of eager jobseekers.

The unique event provides a crucial platform for recruiting companies to meet with those actively seeking jobs or those looking for the next step in their career, to help address the recognised skills gap within the global energy industry.

The oil and gas sector faces many challenges as a result of widespread skills shortages and economic downturn – but Gastech’s ignite! event offers companies the chance to meet with people who have the skills required for the specific jobs they need to fill.

Event partners, Oilcareers.com are expecting to meet with many hopefuls interested in the variety of rewarding jobs they offer.

Karen Scott, head of global marketing at oilcareers.com, said: “Gastech has been running for 40 years, so it’s a key event for oil and gas companies to come together with a wealth of high calibre and worldwide attendees, which is ideal for our clients.”

Lorraine Porter, director at STATS Group, said that because the organisation had positions available around the world, it was particularly important to take part at a conference and exhibition which has a strong international appeal. She said this ensured STATS Group received the best exposure to potential candidates and to existing clients.

She said they were “confident” about picking up “some pretty good CVs”. Lorraine will be speaking at the Development of Human Capital panel on Wednesday morning at 10.30am at Stream Two in the ignite! theatre.

Mott MacDonald’s project director, Michael Eldered, explained that finding the right people with the right skills and oil and gas sector experience was challenging, particularly as the resource pool was not as large as it once was. Gastech is a high profile event with key organisations in attendance and is the right place to find good potential candidates across the sector, he said.

Andrew Edge and Samantha Sogolo - talent acquisition leads for Baker Hughes - were enjoying a busy stand with many enquiries. Mr Edge explained that there were many graduates in the industry, but not enough jobs for them. However, he added, events like Gastech offer an ideal platform that allows job seekers to see for themselves exactly what is on offer.

Wednesday will see a broad range of speeches and presentations from major organisations including Shell, GE Oil & Gas, KCA Deutag and Subsea 7. Stream One will focus on Employment Opportunities from the ignite! exhibitors and Stream Two focuses on Workforce Development.
